My Grandfather on my Father’s side, William Palmer was born at the turn of the century in Hatherleigh. I was wondering if the people in the photograph are relations. My Father was Anthony Palmer and his Mother was Violet Palmer.
April 8th 2020.
I contacted the Hatherleigh Historical Society ealier today before seeing your post.
I sent a note to the Sunday School page in detail this morning referring to a book I have discovered which has long been held in my family library (where it came from? – no one can recall).
I contacted Mrs Lyn Winsbury, wife of the current Rev Leigh Winsbury, Vicar at St John the Baptist, Hatherleigh.
I reported the book is awarded to a ‘W Palmer’ on ‘Holy Thursday’ in 1983.
I also point out there is, on the Sunday school web page, a photo of a turn of the century Sunday school class with a young lad holding a chalk board marked with a chalked ‘5th’. (you can check this out).
One imagines that the book is more likely to be a prize rather than a Christening momento.
I am sending the book down to the Hatherleigh HS.
I very much hope this will get you closer to the W Palmer you are seeking……
