The auction of a Coat in the Square in circa 1907. The reverse of the postcard describes this as a charity auction by one of the town’s clubs providing the cost of a dinner for one recipient, a Mr Battishill, for 3 years. This was possibly either the Men’s Society or the Women’s Society which were two well known benefit societies in the town. The auctioneer is Mr T Munsen and his clerk Mr J Short.
